Dear Applicant:

Each year the Illinois General Assembly allows every legislator to award scholarships to students who reside in their legislative districts. I award eight scholarships to full-time students in the 53rd district. To confirm that you reside in District 53, click here.

High school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. The scholarships are for one year’s tuition only [not room and board] for a student accepted at the following Illinois schools:

Chicago State University in Chicago                                       Eastern Illinois University in Charleston

Governors State University in Park Forest                              Illinois State University in Normal

Northern Illinois University in De Kalb                                    Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago

Southern Illinois University in Carbondale/Edwardsville       Western Illinois University in Macomb

University of Illinois Chicago, Springfield or Urbana

The scholarship applications are available by clicking the links listed below. All pieces of the application must be received in my Arlington Heights office by April 19, 2010. The applicant is responsible to check with those who are sending a transcript or recommendation under separate cover to make sure they have been mailed before the deadline.

The awards are determined by a Scholarship Advisory Board composed of community business people, educators and social service personnel who review all completed applications. The criteria used by the Scholarship Advisory Board are school and community activities, academic achievement, financial need and personal responses in the application form. Award announcements are made in May by letter.

The application is composed of:
Two personal information forms – Click here for application.
Transcripts from high school or college
Three recommendations from teachers, employers or others having personal connection with the student – Click here for recommendation form.

I am privileged to serve the people of the 53rd District. It gives me great pleasure to award eight scholarships to deserving students. Please contact my office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Sidney H. Mathias
